 Gérard Vergnaud in action

 ABSTRACT:

In this essay, we give a personal account of the work of Gérard Vergnad, including his way he presented his work in writing as well as verbally. We describe how he extended the work of both Piaget and Vygotsky by extending it into the didactical realm. In particular we describe Vergnaud's unique way of conceptualizing the concept of concepts by connecting concepts to invariants in situations and representations. In a final section we also describe how some of our own current work builds on the work of Vergnaud.
