 Examining mathematical Discourse practices

In this article, I examine the notion of mathematical Discourse practices. I use a classroom vignette to examine two features of Discourse practices, the situated meanings for utterances and the focus of attention. I consider the multiple Discourse practices that inform views of mathematical Discourses, describe the characteristics of academic mathematical Discourse practices, and consider the distinction between academic and everyday Discourse practices.
